Surely everyone agrees that the oral health is definitely a question totally linked to the people's quality of life, but according to a survey carried out by the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), in general, people lose interest in relating to other people, find it more difficult to get jobs, have a more difficult chewing process and still have difficulties getting a good night's sleep.

That's because our teeth are fully connected with the other members of our face, for example: a toothache can cause headaches and also pain in the ear.

Therefore, it is so necessary for people to take care of their oral health on a daily basis, at home with proper tooth brushing, eating correctly and also frequently visiting a dentist's office.

However, according to data released by the Ministry of Health, it was found that approximately 55,6% of the Brazilian population does not have access to a dentist annually. Thus, 11% of the population in Brazil end up losing some teeth from the 18 years old, and 41% begin to lose their teeth from the 60 years old.

That is why it is so important to take care of your teeth on a daily basis and, for the reasons given, Ministry of Health created the National Oral Health Policy in Brazil, through the Brasil Sorridente Project so that the entire population can have easier access to a complete quality of life.

How the Smiling Brazil Project works

The Smiling Brazil Project was created in 2003 through Ministry of Health with the aim of improving people's oral health, because as mentioned earlier, many Brazilians do not have half-yearly or annual access to an oral health professional's office. And in the old days access was even more difficult.

Although in Brazil there are about 300 thousand dentists, according to Federal Council of Dentistry, in Brazil people still have few resources to take care of their teeth on a daily basis.

Therefore, the Smiling Brazil Project operates in prevention campaigns, educational campaigns in schools and also in the recovery of teeth through dental implants.

The Project has service dental free for everyone through SUS, therefore, the program serves all citizens of all ages in health clinics, care units, hospitals, mobile units and specialized centers.

How to participate in the program and have access to the dental implant

The program is offered by SUS, so everyone can participate, but the main focus is on people with less purchasing power.

Before going to a health center to find out about the service, you should access the official Brasil Sorridente website, where you can check if your region is already participating in the project.

If your city is already covered by the free service, you should go directly to a health unit closest to your home and request a screening appointment, where the dentist will check the status of your teeth.
