What is Emergency Aid and who is entitled?

O Emergency Aid is a financial benefit created by the Brazilian government with the aim of helping informal workers, self-employed, micro-entrepreneurs and low-income families with a monthly allowance of R$ 600 during the pandemic.

O Emergency Aid was created during the pandemic of COVID-19 in 2020, in which many workers had to adapt to maintain their business and even their companies. Therefore, this aid helped to maintain the income of many Brazilians.

Therefore, all those who are informal, self-employed, individual micro-entrepreneurs (MEI) and also members of needy families who do not have an income that exceeds a minimum wage and a half, may be entitled to receive the Emergency Aid. 

However, it is important to point out that new registrations are no longer being accepted for the 2021 Emergency Aid. Therefore, only those who register in 2020 will be entitled to continue receiving this benefit.

How does the 2021 Emergency Aid work?

Currently, according to Provisional Measure 1,039/2021, only one person from each registered family will be able to receive the Emergency Aid in 2021. The benefit portion will be divided as follows: part of it will be for female heads of household an amount of approximately R$ 375.00.

For people who are part of low-income families and who live alone, they may receive around R$ 150.00. And those who work as micro-entrepreneurs, self-employed and informal workers will receive a value of approximately R$ 250.00.

However, to receive the 2021 Emergency Aid you must meet certain requirements. For example, being over 18 years of age, not having a formal job and having a family income of at most half a minimum wage and not having a family member earning more than three minimum wages in the family. 

And as we mentioned earlier, those who already receive the benefit of Bolsa Família Program can request the Emergency Aid, as long as the amount is higher than what they already receive in the social program. How do I know if I receive the installment of Emergency Aid in 2021?
